Foundations of L&D

Gain the skills and experience needed to be a confident learning and development professional in the Foundations of L&D course. The course is focused on the practical skills needed to navigate the modern world of L&D. 

The Foundations of L&D course was inspired by the comprehensive overview of L&D in Brian Washburn’s book, What’s Your Formula? Combine Learning Elements for Impactful Training, published by ATD Press. Brian is the CEO and lead trainer for Endurance Learning and is the lead designer for the Foundations of L&D experience. He has trained over 200 trainers to deliver effective classroom training.

The team at Endurance Learning designed and developed the Foundations of L&D course using the best research mixed with the practical experience of building hundreds of elearning and instructor-led training (ILT) solutions for dozens of clients over ten years.

What do you get in the Foundations of L&D course?

The Foundations of L&D course is a self-paced program that includes a variety of activities ranging from elearning and case studies to reading and reflection.

• 8 Asynchronous, self-paced lessons: Each lesson includes a mixture of readings, elearning modules, podcasts, articles, and assignments. Many of the assignments will also give you foundational work samples that you can refer to in the future or use as part of your portfolio. Each lesson is between 2 and 4 hours to complete for a total of 18 hours of coursework.
• Assignment in each lesson, plus 5 with expert feedback: The course is about building skills. Much of what you learn will be applied through assignments related to a realistic case study. For five of the assignments, you’ll submit them to be reviewed by an L&D expert for written feedback. The two biggest assignments will be related to building a sample elearning module and delivering a short instructor-led segment.
• Office Hours: During this program, you may choose to sign up for a 60-minute “virtual coffee” with an Endurance Learning master trainer to discuss key concepts and/or to answer any questions you may have about your assignment.
• Book: A copy of What’s Your Formula? Combine Learning Elements for Impactful Training by Brian Washburn which is referenced throughout the course.
